But First, Doctor, What Was Your Marathon Time?

While browsing through the New York Times articles online, I found one the struck my interest in the 'Health' section. When I finished with the article I felt my own opinion of doctors form. In the past I have always been treated by a doctor that is similar to me. It makes sense that athletes might want doctor's who are also active in some way too. That way both the patient and the doctor fully understand one another when it comes to athletic issues or injuries. It's the same reason why women usually prefer woman doctor's because of the sense of comfort and same interests. The article included many first-hand accounts of experiences of athletes with active and non-active doctors. The results varied slightly, but many times it proved that working with a physically active doctor usually ended up with better results and advice. But it also happens that sometimes the athlete may have had to visit several doctor's with different athletic specialties to get the wanted result and treatment. Wether it's an athlete or non-athlete it is best to choose what doctor you are most comfortable with in the end.
