Fairy tales are used to entertain humans of all ages. Weather it be to little kids or older adults who have already heard these fairy tales in their childhood. Usually we just think of them as stories to entertain and amuse, but there is actually a deeper meaning. Why is it that in many fairy tales there is always a 'beautiful' person who is portrayed as the "good" character and then there is the ugly character who represents "evil?" This sends a message that to prosper and have a 'happy ending' you must be attractive and beautiful. These fictional tales have taken a tole on the real world and set a standard for how beauty is supposed to look. Especially in the tales involving princesses, it portrays that you must be cordial all the time to live a successful life. It seems to me that in all of these fairy tales that the only quality the women is given is beauty. There is never a mention of physical activity or having an education. In an earlier time, fairy tales were used to set standards for how a woman and man should act later in their lives. It is our human nature to want to be beautiful and achieve a happy ending. All of the hidden, yet powerful images need to be addressed. We need to teach humans that you can have a happily ever after without being the media's image of beautiful.
