Graphic Novel

Synopsis
The beatles impact is a memoir of the beatles achivements from the 60's to the 70's as told by plastic spoons living in the silverware drawer of their tour bus. There are a total of 30 packaged spoons but you only ever hear from five: main spoon, Fan spoon, angry spoon, pudding spoon, and paranoid spoon. Leader spoon is the most commonly heard from. They witness everything the beatles go through first hand.

FAN Spoon
Her name was Fennella Annabella Naftalie (also known as FAN). She had been named well because as she grew into her teen years she became her name. Ever since this spoon saw the first Beatles concert at the Indra Club in Germany, she knew she was an adoring fan. From the clippings of them in her silverware drwer to the constant humming of their songs, it was obvious she was one of their true groupies. FAN spoon traveled around the country, following The Beatles as their popularity grew until one day her dream came true. By sitting back stage at one of their concerts she was able to get into one of the catering drawers which was then taken to the Beatles touring bus where she sat with five other spoons. The other spoons thought of her as childish and too immature to be traveling with such important figures. They were partially right, but she didn't take it too much to heart. After all, she was only a few feet away from her life passion. FAN was thought of as an attractive spoon with her smooth surface and shiny looks that she hoped would catch the attention of her favorite band member ringo. She tried not to get too involved into political and religious ideas, but took life as it came. Forming her own opinions and not taking them from others. she discovered what he true talent was. This talent was being able to flip over and stand on her head with no other support. She had performed this stunt at one of The Beatles concerts in hope of impressing them. Unfortunately, all she gained from this was a bruise from falling over which later became a scar. FAN didn't have much in her life, but the things she had made her extremely happy.

Spork
Spork has always had a problem fitting in., all the other spoons have thought of him differently. They seemed to think he didn't belong because he wasn't a full spoon or a full spork. This was because his dad was a fork and his mother was spoon, but no one ever thought to ask. They just judged him by his differences rather than his similarities with them. He had always thought of this as unfair, but he never dared to voice his opinion or else he would be even more unwelcome. The looks the other spoons gave him silenced any possibilities of him fitting in. Spork had always been a quiet one, even before the ridicule had begun. He had never had a best friend, unless you counted his parents. They had always been there for him, in every situation he had ever been in. With his life being very un-joyful, he took on a very grim sense of humor that tended to infect those around him. He decided that his main goal in life was too be invisible, at times this could be fairly easy since he rarely talked, but his looks gave him unnecessary attention that he did not want. Spork often had a pained look on his face with a mixture of anxiety. He thought of everyone as his enemy even if he didn't know them. This created a very unpleasant vibe and life for Spork. He had thought of plastic surgery to change his appearance, but with no money made this wasn't an option anymore. He spent all his time alone and in solitude. This didn't suit him very well, but he had to get used to it because of his situation. All he wanted was to spring out of this shell that was keeping him locked away from the world. But instead he stayed in the dark corners of the drawer and watched the world go by.

Angry Spoon
A plastic spoon living in the drawer of the Beatles tour bus, Angry spoons full name is Eunice Joe Cambel ( maybe that's why he's so angry) or maybe its something deeper. Regardless there is a big chip on angry spoons handle. He's a plastic spoon living in the drawer of the Beatles tour bus. He always has a mad expression on his face and has very strong political views and labels himself a democrat. He is the oldest out of all the spoons and often doesn't associate himself with them. He educates himself on the daily happenings by watching the news and when asked will bluntly state his opinion.

Pudding Spoon
Pudding spoon biggest influence is Pudding. Infact that's all he talks about, because that's all he says. He is always happy and always has a gaping obnoxious smile. When asked anything he replies PUDDING! If it was up to pudding spoon the beatles would have their bus stocked with nothing else but pudding. Though he loves all flavors of pudding his preferance is chocolate. Though he never says it his goal is to spread peace to the world through pudding.

Paranoid Spoon
Paranoid spoon looms in the back of the drawer with a constant nervous look on his face. He was taken to a peace protest that got out of hand and as a result was stepped on. Ever since then he fights for peace quietly often writing poetry. He is missing half of his handle, his head is bandaged and one eye is a little bit bigger than the other. When under stress he shakes and rambles to himself. Loud music, and yelling set him off. Before the accident he was the number one anarchist. His hobbies now include poetry and writting songs, he is rumered to have writtin the all you need is love song made poplar by the beatles.

Marji's Future Predictions

I had just turned away from the place and people I had learned everything from.
I knew there was no going back, at least not anytime soon. The future lied ahead full of promises and unknowns.
Eleven hours later with a queasy stomach and grumpy attitude, I got off the plane.
As I entered the airport my pounding headache got worse and I could still hear the baby’s screaming ringing in my ears.
I scanned the airport looking for a woman with a sign with my name on it.
Finally, I saw an elderly woman with a piece of cardboard the said “Margi” on it.
My anger fumed immediately and I sauntered over and addressed her.
“My name is spelled with a 'j' not a 'g' If I’m going to live with you, you should know how to spell it at least.”
“Fine, Marji with a “j.” I’m Elisa and while your living with me you will keep your poor manners and snappish retorts to yourself. Is that clear?”
“Whatever,” I grumbled.
I could already tell this individual was going to be one of my pains in the coming years.

As the years continued Elisa’s attitude softened slightly towards me, but we had still had many disagreements between us.
I just couldn’t sit by and hold my tongue while she insulted everything I stood for.
“What is the name of that horrific music you are listening to?” Elisa said one day.
“It’s called the Rolling Stone and it’s not horrific,” I replied.
“Well, shut that racket off. And what did I tell you about wearing your pants that way? It looks positively dreadful.” she commented.
“Why don’t you just lay off and fix that dreadful headscarf of yours,” I responded.
And so it went for years and years.

When I had finished high school with top grades in my history class I decided to travel back to my homeland, Iran.
My parents had only visited me twice in all these years. They claimed it was because of trouble getting out of Iran, but I have a suspicion that they had disowned me and replaced me with another child.
I knocked on the door of their apartment. “It’s Marji, open up!”
The door opened and my mother burst out with my father close behind.
“It’s so good to have you home darling. We missed you.”
As I separated myself from my parent’s grasps, I noticed a third face peering at me from behind them.
“Oh, did we mention that we’re renting? This is Vicki. She’s the same age as you. She’s been living here for two years now,” they said.
It wasn’t another child, but it was close enough. I immediately had a disliking for her.
“Nice to meet you,” she said. “I’ve heard so many great things about you.”
I instantly hated how nice she was and became jealous of her ease.
“Hi,” I grumbled, deciding not to give her the satisfaction of my presence.

The years flew by and my disliking of Vicki faded away. It felt as though she was part of the family and it was like old times again.
I decided to move to America where I had heard there was freedom of speech with no consequences.
This prospect of life in America floated into my dreams and it soon became a reality.
I had been living in the United States for a few years with little communication with anyone in Iran.
One day as I had gone outside to get the mail, I noticed a formal looking envelope addressed to me from my parents in Iran.
I went inside and hastily tore open the letter.
As I read, my facial expression moved from one of interest to one of disbelief and horror.
The way in which my parents described life in Iran currently made me realize how little I used my freedom of expression in America.
After finishing the letter, I opened up my notebook and let my life story flow onto the pages.
No longer was I going to let Iran’s hopeless situation be ignored. It was time for drastic action.

Shaping The Character Marji

Throughout Marji’s childhood there were many events and experiences that changed every aspect of her life. Marji’s childhood was during the Islamic Revolution which changed how she would probably lived originally. When all Iranian women are required to start wearing a veil over their hair, her family immediately opposes it. Since her family was very modern they carry this opposition for her entire childhood. Marji’s parents had always been for the revolution and against many traditional rules and regulations. Parents usually have a very strong influence on a child’s views and Marji took on many of her family’s beliefs. She group around many communist ideas which I believe helped shape her rebellious personality.

As Marji grows older, she begins to attend protests with her parents. These demonstrations were used to get people from a higher power’s attention. It usually worked, but many times violence broke out and corruption begins to erupt. Marji forms her own opinion of the government as she enters her teen years and as her family becomes more affected. Her personality blossoms into the form of a rebel and actively goes against rules in school and on the streets. She seems to grow more independent as the years progress and many of her friends move to the United States for a better life. Marji’s parents realize that she is finally mature enough in attitude and age and is sent off to start a new chapter of her life in Vienna.

Persepolis Reflection

The History Of Iran:

Throughout the years. Iran has been inviting attacks from other countries because of their wealth, resources, location, and influential power. The Iranian nation began in the seventh century B.C. but was later on destroyed by Cyrus the Great. It was one of the largest nations of it’s time which is why so many historical leaders tried to conquer it and have complete domination. But with Iran’s rich culture they were able to withstand these invasions. Many of the invaders even joined into this wealthy lifestyle and in some ways adapted the the Iranian ways.

When the twentieth century rolled around, Iran entered a new phase full of modernization. One of the many natural resources that was discovered during that period was oil. This new resource brought on new invasions and new influences from other countries. One of these many countries was Great Britain who had a very strong influence on the Iranian economy. Then the Cold War began and many of the oil companies were nationalized, the Shah returned and was used a puppet so that the United States and and Great Britain could do as they pleased in Iran. Then the white revolution began in 1963, the Shah begins to modernize Iran with ideas from the west.

As Iran was going through difficult times, many Iranians decided to take action and voice their opinions. Ayatollah Khomeini was one of these people and wrote books about overthrowing the Shah and organizing an Islamic revolution. Once it was discovered that he had written so many books discussing this topic he was exiled and sent to France where he continued writing. Suddenly, many Iranians began speaking out about how the government was not benefitting the progression of Iran. People became reckless and started protesting out against the Shah. To control the economy, the government laid down stricter rules.

During the 1970’s, the border dispute with Iran began to become a larger issue than it had been in the past. Everywhere, new issues were popping up around Iran that began affecting other countries. In 1974-75 Iran decided to support the Kurds in Iraq by supplying them with weapons and arms. This solved the border dispute, but terror blossomed between countries. The Shah decided to put Iran under martial to try and protect the country, but this caused more trouble. Iran was in a stage of dispute and crisis and finally the Islamic revolution erupted all around the nation. The Shah was finally overthrown and was sent into exile. With the Shah gone and Iran in need of a new leader, Khomeini returns and establishes an Islamic state run by the CLERGY.

With Iran recovering from it’s troublesome times from years earlier, a new power decides to take advantage of Iran’s weakness. Saddam Hussein invades Iran with Iraq’s powerful militia force. This stars a new war between nations that went on for eight years until it ended in 1988. A total of 1.7 million were wounded in this conflict and one million were declared dead. When the twenty-first century arrives a new president is voted as the new leader by popular vote. The president Amidagan was not a fundamentalist and had no religious beliefs. But compared to previous leaders, it is hopeful that he will create a fresh start for Iran.
